Freedom!

Posted:06-30-2008
On July 4, we celebrate our nation’s independence. When we hear the Star Spangled Banner and see Old Glory fly, we feel a sense of pride in being able to be a citizen of the greatest country in the world.

Freedom! What a price so many have paid for us to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy as individuals and as a nation. There are many in our church, too many to list, who have and continue to serve our great country in the Armed Forces. I personally thank each veteran or service person present or represented here today for the great sacrifice you have made for our country. You are my heroes!

As you read this, I am in the mountains of Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Included in today’s trip will be a trip to the Upper Room and then to Mount Zion. How incredible to walk where Jesus walked on His way to secure our eternal freedom! He paid the ultimate sacrifice so the whole world can share in the spiritual freedom He offers. Let’s stand together, victorious, united and determined to help others experience their own personal freedom through our conquering hero, Jesus Christ!

We are pleased to have Dr. H.D. McCarty as our guest speaker today. He is a retired General with the Air National Guard and retired pastor of University Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Dr. McCarty will also lead a seminar tonight from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. entitled The Overcoming Journey: Graphic Theology and the Christ Life Compass. You will not want to miss this dynamic and inspirational time.

The Personnel Committee has nominated the individuals who they believe God would have to serve on the Pastor Search Committee. Those individuals are Sam Devore, Chair; Gene Magee, Vicky Goolsby, Paul Boykin, Nan Thompson, Vickie Smith and W.C. Young. We will vote on this committee on July 6 in the evening service.

In Christ,
