NANo Vision: Sold Out Living 8 - Romans 12:6

03/05/2008

In 12:9-21 Paul deals with Christians in relationship to our lord and to other people.
  • “Let love be without dissimulation (hypocrisy). This is defined in John 14:15; this is the first great truth.
  • “Abhor that which is evil.” We must just not do those things that are wrong and evil; we must hate them. (Proverbs 1:10, 4:14,
  •  Psalm 97:10)
  • “Cleave to that which is good.”—fasten yourself so firmly to the good that you cannot be separated from it.
  • Details of the principles (verses 10-11)
  • “Be kindly affectioned…”—This is not an affection dictated by circumstances but by relationships—the love we have for our family. The same must be true of our Christian family. We have to take care of one another. (Proverbs 27:10) The only way to be kindly affectioned one toward another with brotherly love is summed up in Romans 12:1-2.
  1. * Mark 10:29—Because you have become my followers, it may mean you will be cut off by your natural family.
  2. * As Christians we must always be ready to support our Christian relatives. (1 Corinthians 12:36) Nothing can happen to any one of us alone; it happens to all of us—because we are members of the same family.
  3. *Difference in “liking” and “loving”
  4. * A Christian should feel a closer bond with another Christian than he feels with a relative who is lost.
  • “In honor preferring one another” Make sure you are always first in giving honor to another believer.
  • “Live at peace with all men unless they make it quite impossible for you to do so.” Don’t be the cause of trouble. Effective way to deal—(Proverbs 16:7)
