NANo Vision: Sold Out Living 5 - Romans 12: 1-2
02/13/2008Renewing of our minds—God’s formula for getting from fear to peace
Philippians 4:6-7 (1) Prayer—worship and adoration and praise. We looked at praising first—that’s where are mind is focused.
(2) Supplication—taking whatever bothers us to the Lord
(3) Thanksgiving—this is essential if we are to have the peace of God in our hearts and minds.
--When you approach the throne of grace, you must be able to say with the writer of Psalm 73: “Truly God is good.”
--Begin by asking, “For what can I thank God?” Thanks Him for who he
is and for what He has done (eternal things).
--Also pray the Psalms. (Psalm 86:15, 136:1-3)
(2) Supplication—we make our requests known unto God. We worship first; then we make our request known. And we don’t have to beg and
draw out our requests. (Psalm 140:6)
When we pray in this way, the Lord takes us above our circumstances and makes us triumph in spite of them.
--Circumstances will be settled in God’s way and on His timetable. (Psalm 37:7) Example: Macy Bricker: 1 Timothy 6:6
-- We make our requests known to God and He will do something. He will transform the great problem into perfect peace—“the peace which passes all understanding…”(4:7).
--You cannot understand the peace; you cannot imagine the peace; but you can experience the peace. The Holy Spirit will produce it. Example: John George Carpenter
--Bible connects righteousness with peace (Psalm 85:10, Isaiah 32:17, Romans 14:17)
--The degree of peace you have right now depends on your standing before God.
“…Ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God” You get with God, and He will put you where you are supposed to be.
--The object of the renewed mind is to enable us to understand the will of God that was not possible before.
