God is faithful to meet our needs when we give. Sometimes we are reluctant to give because we don’t think we will be able to meet all our needs, and that is exactly the problem. We try to meet our needs rather than letting God meet our needs when we give. Why should we give to Generations? 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 helps answer this question.
- You will experience the blessings of God. Paul said in verse 6, “the person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously.” God wants to bless us when we give.
- Because of your love for God. The Bible says, “God loves a cheerful heart.” Your attitude is more important than the amount you give and reflects your love for God.
- God will meet your needs. Verse 8 states, “And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.”
- You will be able to give more away. “Every good work” means acts of love. The reason God gives generously back to us is not for us to have more but that we can give more.
- Giving will create a spirit of thanksgiving. Paul says in verse12, “For the ministry of this service (giving) is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many acts of thanksgiving to God.”
- Others will glorify God. Verse 13 states, “Through the proof of this service, they will glorify God for your obedience to the confession of the gospel of Christ, and for our generosity in sharing with them and with others.” Our giving will cause others to glorify God. They should not only hear the gospel but see it demonstrated through a giving lifestyle.
- Giving will create a future bond. Paul says in verse 14, “And in their prayers for you they will have deep affection for you because of the surpassing grace of God on you.” This is a powerful verse. We do not give so others will recognize us, but when we give, they see God’s grace on us and have a deep love for us. When we give, we are building a bond with a future generation many of whom we will never meet. They, however, will have a deep love for us because our faithful giving.
How do I know how much to give? Verse 7 is the key, “Each person should do as he has decided in his heart.” The context of the verse means we are to seek God, and He will reveal to us what we should give. It is not an equal amount for everyone but equal sacrifice.
Our lives should be about giving. Make and pledge and give to Generations.
