Our History

When we examine our past, our history, we often gain a clarity of who we are and what we believe. The same is true for the church. From the onset, Colonial Heights has always been a Great Commission church (Matthew 28:19-20). A flyer from the early years advertised, “If you’re interested in belonging to a church where Christ is preached, the Bible is the standard for all beliefs, and fellowship is the essence of every meeting, then we say – Welcome to Colonial Heights.”

From the first organizational meeting in the home of Jim and Geneva White on November 3, 1955 through the forming of Colonial Heights Baptist Mission in 1956, members have focused on sharing the gospel of Christ, and have sacrificed to provide for the needs of the church. With a budget of $5,200, three acres of land, a ranch house and a stable, the first sixty-six members strived to make Colonial Heights Baptist Church become a reality.

Since then, membership has grown to over 3,000 today, thousands have been baptized, and many have surrendered to the ministry. Through all the changes and additions however, the vision of Colonial Heights has remained the same. Some of the earliest publications on record, state that, “The sole purpose of the Colonial Heights Baptist Church shall be to do the will and work of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."

Because of God’s blessing the faithfulness of Colonial Heights, space has always been a constant need; a need God has consistently and faithfully provided for through His people. Today we find ourselves in Phase I of the master plan for our campus. Since the turn of the century, we have seen the world change with the tragedy of 9/11, we have seen our country go to war to protect future generations, and we have seen God continue to work here at Colonial Heights. We launched a Hispanic Mission Church - Vida Abundante, began work in the Battlefield Park area of Jackson, partnered with George Elementary School, and started LifeBridge mission church in Gluckstadt - all to reach people for Christ.

“If you’re interested in belonging to a church where Christ is preached, the Bible is the standard for all beliefs, and fellowship is the essence of every meeting, then we say – Welcome to Colonial Heights.”
